Protecting The Recurrence Of Gum Disease After A Periodontal Surgery

Periodontal or gum disease starts when bacteria invades the gum tissues that surrounds and supports the teeth thus making the gums appear to be tender, puffy and bleed easily and losing its capability of the bone to support the teeth resulting to tooth loss.

Periodontal or gum disease treatments such as periodontal surgery is necessary to prevent further progression of the condition. Periodontal surgery is an option for severe cases of gum diseases, treatments varies on the severity of the condition. Long term result of periodontal surgery cannot be achieved if proper oral care and nutrition is not practiced.

Studies have shown that periodontal treatment with maintenance is very effective at preserving ones teeth and dramatically reducing the incidence of tooth decay and gum disease recurrence. Studies have also shown that periodontal treatment without maintenance is of little value in the long run in preserving periodontal health.
